There is a lot going on in August in Houston. In addition to Back-To-School, it’s time to start gearing up for the 2024 general election, and there are a lot of community events and cultural events. This list will be updated throughout August as I learn of other events, so please submit new events to be added.

Disrupting Whiteness through Electoral Activism:

There are a lot of great candidates of color running for PRESIDENT, US Senator from Texas Colin Allred, statewide and local office in Texas.  Texas is not considered a swing state for Presidential election, but that doesn’t mean elections here don’t matter.  Here are some first-steps in disrupting whiteness through electoral justice:

Become a voter registrar and register voters in places you expect to see progressive voters:

Participate in a political group.  These often have great speakers and opportunities to volunteer for a campaign:  https://greaterheightsdemocrats.com/

Write GOTV postcards for Texas (I have some I can share)

Host a GOTV postcard writing party

Write political postcards with other progressives

Train for the Voter Assistance Hotline

Go register voters with Ethan Michelle Ganz / Battleground Texas – good company and good training.  Do you need his contact info?

Register to volunteer with Rideshare To Vote
