I’m Laura Gallier, she/her, the creator of Disrupting Whiteness. I’m a white straight 60ish-year-old, christian*, usually-abled, professional-class, married southern woman.

From 2015-2024 I worked with the Center for the Healing of Racism as producer and facilitator of programming and was Co-Executive Director in 2019-2020. I train(ed) with SURJ-HTX, laura brewer, White Privilege Conference, Houston Coalition Against Hate, Arc of White Womanhood, PISAB Undoing Racism, White Awake, Reckon With, Tea Time with Sandra, Red Nations Rising and others.

I’m active with Pure Justice, access to democracy, police accountability, immigrant justice and support for prison journalist Jason Renard Walker, and have previously showed up in education equity and equitable disaster recovery. I’m the editor of an email blast called Daily Resistance which suggests action items that can be taken on an as-available basis. In the social ecosystem suggested by Deepa Iyer, I would describe myself as a Weaver.

I’m a retired CPA, a grandmama of a growing brood of pre-schoolers, a pilates and yoga practicer and an avid tie dyer.

*If only for myself, I need to qualify describing myself as christian. I’ve lived my whole life in the Houston area, which is Deep South Bible Belt. Years ago I gave up translating /reconciling white southern christian teachings into something that seemed like my experience of a divine order; since then I practice deconstructing and relearning my faith through the lens of social gospel, liberation theology, Buddhism and respect for other faiths and humanism, distinguishing the lessons for my position in the oppressor class (white) and an oppressed class (woman). Eventually there’ll be a blog post or two about that.

  1. Laura, I’m so glad you are holding this space and I eat up your resources and reflections… even when you do not know it. I will work to engage with you and your resources here. Sending big love and gratitude to you.
