February is Black History Month. This year’s theme is African Americans and Labor. What comes to mind for me is Pauli Murray and the I AM A MAN sanitation strike in Memphis, a demonstration the Rev Dr Martin Luther King Jr went to Memphis for, where he was assasinated. Since I was not taught Black History, I subscribe to 28 Days of Black History each year.
In February and throughout the year, please make an extra effort to support Black-owned businesses. As an extra bonus, this will also mean keeping our money out of the hands of the oligarchs who own Amazon, Walmart, Home Depot and publicly-traded restaurant chains.
